This winter I hibernated with the Bears. Perhaps not in the way you might be imagining. So let me take a step back and explain.
Sometime in January, I found myself feeling low in energy. I was fighting myself to get out of bed in the morning. My focus was on all the things I needed to do. So each morning, I forced myself to get up and out of bed, while my body clearly had other ideas. By March, the lethargy was laced with self-judgement and doubt.
As I thought about it, it occurred to me, who better to talk to about “hibernating” than the Bears? So I decided to do just that. As I sat in my living room, after having forced myself to get up that same morning, I reached out telepathically to the Bears. Below is what they told me.
Just open and nuzzle up to what is in the moment. Don’t try to resist or fight it. Enjoy the sleep without judgment. Trust that your cycle will naturally shift and you will find yourself in a new, open, light space ready to experience the next chapter. Your self-judgment is what gets in the way.
One Bear, in particular, told me know how much he loves to sleep. He shared that it gives his mind, body and soul the opportunity to rest and prepare for what is to come. This provides a solid grounding as he moves forward.
I could sense this shared experience among the entire Bear Clan. They urged me to hold the vision, the powerful awareness of experience. The Bears told me that this was the path to greater clarity.
These Animals look at hibernation as a natural process. They completely immerse themselves in the experience and let the rhythms of their body lead the way. There is no judgment or resistance.
So I decided that I would approach my experience as would a Bear. I began giving myself permission to stay in bed an extra hour or two, letting myself be guided by what my body was telling me that it needed. Without judgment, I basked in the freedom to crawl deep under the covers. When I awoke, I felt more motivated and less resistant to facing the day.
The season has shifted and Spring is upon us. The Flowers have bloomed, the Butterflies have spread their wings and the Bears have left their winter dens. As for me, I awoke from my slumber with more energy than I have had In the past 10 years. My hibernation naturally infused me with renewed vitality and transformed my lethargy into inspiration.
