5 Ways to Deepen Your Relationship

with Your Pet

Just as in other relationships, with intention and effort, you can deepen your relationship with your pet. Animals are wise and have lessons to teach us. In addition to feeling a stronger bond with your pet, you may also experience a greater sense of internal peace. No special skills or experience is required – only love for your pet and an open mind.

1. Have Fun and Enter the Process in the Spirit of Play

Animals bring a lighthearted spirit of play to all of their activities. When we join them in this place of joy, our pets take us under their wings and show us how to fly. Engage with your pet in exploring this new terrain, which may literally mean stopping to smell the roses. This shared experience will build greater intimacy in your relationship with your pet.

2. Allow the Healing Presence of Your Pet to Come Alive

Pets come into our lives offering unconditional love. They are bundles of light and their energy can be a powerful healing force. Healing can take a physical, emotional, or spiritual form. Health and behavioral challenges can be catalysts for deep healing for both of you. Stay open to the possibilities that present themselves, as healing gifts come in a variety of packages.

3. Open to Messages from Your Pet

You are already communicating with your pet, without even realizing it. Messages come in a variety of forms including images, sounds, ideas, and words. Notice and trust these communications without judgment or censorship. The meaning may be crystal clear to you at the moment or it may take more time to register. Just go with the flow and enjoy the process.

4. Be Willing to See the World in a New Light

Animals have a unique perspective that is often different from ours. They tend to be more in the moment and see the big picture. Our pets are usually less attached to their physical form and more accepting of life changes. This outlook can be particularly helpful to you when dealing with situations of pet loss, including missing animals and those who have passed on.

5. Practice Communicating with Your Pet

Just like any new endeavor, communicating with your pet can feel strange at first. Your pet will love it. The more you practice, the more natural it becomes. While your pet understands you, this does not mean that the animal will comply with your requests. Communication is an art that requires listening, sharing, and sometimes negotiation.
